Childhood Questions

When I was a kid, I wanted to be an officer in the marines. My grandpa would always share stories about when he was in the military, and how great it had been. He told me he was an officer, and I wanted to be just like him. Instead of going to the army, though, I wanted to be a marine. Now I want to eventually be an officer in the Navy, which I would have hated when I was younger. I wanted nothing to do with the Navy, because they ¨never take out the bad guys.¨ I think I was around 10 when my dad made me listen to an audio book on Lone Survivor, and learned about the Navy SEALS. I made him tell me everything about them, but eventually he ran ot of things to tell me about, and I became obsessed with learning an researching about them. Thats where I got my love for the SEALS and what they do. In a way, the wonder hasn't gone away, but it has turned into something else, like when a dream starts to feel real. Window Poem

Through my car window, straight out the drivers side, I see a silent and foggy field. Through the windshield and beyond, I see the softball field, abandoned, awaiting its players. Today feels different. Today feels like a new page. My thoughts are brighter, and happier. Sometimes I can feel myself telling my children how beautiful this place was, and what it meant to me. The October sun peeks out over the hospital and spills light into the field. Sometimes, when I look out into the field, I can see myself walking in the silent field with someone I still love

Days spent out in the sun are days I want to remember forever. Soaking up the sun and feeling the wheat between my fingers, I begin to think of what life would be like if I spent every day doing this. I can hear the gentle strumming of an acoustic guitar echoing from the porch, which fills my ears with its sweet sounds, and fills my heart with much needed happiness. I push my back against the tree and tilt my hat down past my eyes. I can hear the panting of my big, brown dog, who also decided it was a good day to take a nap in the shade. The sun shines down over the field, warming the wheat and the ground, making my tree much more comfortable and inviting. I wish I could share this moment with somebody. I don't mean to be selfish, but I can't help it. I suppose that's how it is for everyone, wanting more even if you have it all. I wish everyone could spend this moment with me. My eyes begin to droop again, and I feel my body getting more relaxed, as if its molding in...
