Dream Post

I always daydream about completing a goal. More specifically, the goal of becoming a SEAL. It's become one of the things I only think about. There's always a few moments that I think about, but there is one moment that is more powerful than the others.

I can see myself far away. The distant shouting of instructors is the only thing that can be heard faintly over the sound of the crashing waves and seagulls. It would be the last day of hell week, but nobody would know it. I'm carrying a log on my shoulders, instructors harassing me and the class of 10 that was born from the class of 100. I'm much closer now, as I cross the last dune. They make me stop. I look exhausted, my eyes drooping, hands bloody, face caked in mud and sand. The log is drooping off my shoulders, and my knees are starting to buckle. A lone instructor walks over to me and bends down next to my ear. “If that you drop that log, you will not be a SEAL. Look at you, you're miserable, by far the smallest and weakest here. You're going to drop that log, and im going to watch you do it.”
All my muscles tighten, and the log starts to wobble a bit. I firmly plant my feet in the sand, and summoning all my strength, let out a furious scream that's heard over the oceans and instructors. The log is back on my shoulders, and i'm furiously yelling back at the instructors. They force the log out off my shoulders and tell me, “congratulations on passing the SEAL challenge program, job well done, soldier.”
Then im walking back over the dunes, heading toward the Naval Amphibious Base. Everything is spinning, spots dancing in my vision, knees weak from 7 months of running. I walk up to the phone, and it feels like i'm in a dream, I can't quite focus but i can still barely function. I hit the dials on the phone, which feels like a hundred pounds, and force it to my ear. I'm trying to keep my balance, trying not to fall asleep. “Hello?” My moms voice sounds distant, and I can hear her concern in her voice. “I did it, momma.” I felt my knees give out, and I layed down on the freezing, metal floor of the Amphibious base commons. The cold bit at my legs as I sank into the deep blue abyss.
