1. Theres not any writing piece in particular that stand out to me. I mostly just like elaborating on proverbs or writing in the style of William H. McRaven. With that being said, theres a few lessons I talk about in my writing and posts. How a sword is forged was my first lesson, I think, I wrote about. A sword is not forged without first being dipped into fire and getting beat on. Its a good lesson, because even though we have bad times, it only makes us stronger. At the end of all that torture, youll become a sword, and you will have become better because of it.
2. During the quarter, I finished the best book ive ever read. Fearless: Adam Brown. Adam Brown started off his life in a small town in Arkansas, with a loving family, and two siblings. He never gave anything up and he always put on his best manners when he was in public. Later in life, he meets a girl who is addicted to crack, who ends up getting Adam addicted to it. Adam began stealing to support his drug addiction, landing him in rehab twice. He was so sick of himself, he decided to join the Navy SEALS and started his life over from scratch. He was so happy to start his life over, he always gave 100% the first time he did anything, which landed him a lot of attention from instructors. Everyone loved Adam, and theres a million stories that thousands of SEALs share about him. Unfortunately, he died during Operation Lake James. The way he died was classic Adam Brown: His team was under heavy suppressive fire, and adam volunteered to run over to the enemy and lob a grenade inside the compound. He stood up and ran over to the point, when a machine gun opened up and tore him apart, but not before he lobbed the grenade. When his team got to him, he looked up and said ¨Ill be ok guys, Im alright now.¨ He died giving 100% the first time.
3. I enjoyed setting up a blog. I dont think ill use it in the future, just because blogging isnt my thing. It was very interesting, and I actually had fun posting pieces of work, even if nobody would see it. Through posting my peices, Ive learned what style of writing best suits me and I cant wait to grow my newfound talent in my writing. Please keep doing blogs for future classes :)
4. I will most likely continue to journel, it will just be digitally. Ive saved up for a Mac Book, so most of my work will be stored in google docs and stuff like that. Mostly, I want to write to inspire. My greatest heros inspired me to want to do great things, and I want to inspire other people to do great things too. Its such a good feeling to have, when you find a good quote to live by. I want others to carry words with them the way I do with my heros.
5.I dont have anything in my journal that I find worth typing, but Ill talk about a piece I wrote a while ago if that is ok. I had heard from somewhere the term ¨paper man¨ which relates to a person who acts tough, but when *stuff* hits the fan, theyre not too much of a man. I talk about how easily words can tear a paperman, and that in some way or another, we are all just paper men. When the paperman comes around, he drags with him rocks from his past, or maybe hes soaked from an experience hes had in the past. Although we are all papermen, that doesnt mean that we cant be strong. Nobody has to stay a paperman, and some people choose not too. I wrote the piece to inspire myself to be less like a paperman, and more like a ¨man.¨
6. The people who hate this country haven't been outside this country. Do they not understand why people are willing to jump, climb, swim and crawl into this country? I do not hate them for hating the country, it is their constitutional right to burn the flag. I respect them for their views and will listen to their argument. Then I tell them of a place where men rule over women, where children cant play in the streets, where mothers will bathe their children in rivers. A place where the government will take whatever they want from villages, so they cannot fight back and overthrow them. I love this country only because I understand what happens outside this country. Ironically, the people who hate this country the most, refuse to leave.
7. I dont necessarily think creative writing is my thing. I think usuing creativeness in my writing is my thing, but inspiration from art or a childhood memory isnt what I want to write about. I´d really like to write about something in my life that could inspire others, but my life hasnt been fully lived yet, so I try to write from an outside point of view for now. My story is being written everyday, but the adventure is yet to happen, and when it does, you can expect that there will be fragments of creative writing in it
8. You guys have such amazing voices in your writing. I hope you continue to write and grow that voice even more
Keep writing and don’t ever stop. It doesn’t matter how good or bad you think you are. It doesn’t matter what other people think. The key to becoming good at anything is practice.
ReplyDeleteA piece of advice for other writers out there: never stop reading. Reading will help improve your own writing immensely because it allows you to observe other writing techniques that you can use in your own writing. Also, when you write, try to draw inspiration from your own life, because everyone has something to say/share based on their life experiences. Imbue your writing with a message or purpose by imbuing it with yourself.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your pieces this year! Seeing other writing styles is my favorite thing and thank you for sharing with me a piece of your mind! Love u Quinn
ReplyDeleteRead, practice, read, and read some more. Read so much you're overflowing with words. Overtime, the hardest parts of writing will melt into something better. Keep it up!
